The Colony began in 1973, when the builder Fox and Jacobs bought about 3,000 acres near State Highway 121 and FM 423 and planned a 'colony' of single-family homes. The first families moved in in 1974, and the city merged with lakeside Eastvale in 1987. By the 2020 Census it had 44,534 residents. Lewisville Lake forms the city's western edge, and about 23 miles of shoreline lie within the city limits. Housing ranges from the original Fox and Jacobs streets to the Austin Ranch and The Tribute master-planned communities, and roughly two in five households rent. Students attend Lewisville ISD or, in areas such as The Tribute, Little Elm ISD. A long-distance truck usually leaves on the Sam Rayburn Tollway (SH 121), which connects to I-35E or the Dallas North Tollway. The city bans commercial vehicles from parking on its streets, so we plan the loading spot ahead of time. Green Van Lines, a long-distance mover from Dallas–Fort Worth founded in 2007 and the first eco-friendly moving company in the United States, plans the details around your address.
