Plano is mostly in Collin County, with a small part in Denton County, and counted 285,494 residents in the 2020 Census. It is the largest city in Texas without an interstate highway. Four major roads frame it instead: U.S. 75 on the east, the Dallas North Tollway on the west, the President George Bush Turnpike on the south and the Sam Rayburn Tollway (SH 121) on the north, with Preston Road (SH 289) running through the middle. That matters for a long-distance move, because the route out of state usually starts on one of those four roads. The city is largely planned and laid out on a grid, from Downtown Plano and its DART Red Line station to Willow Bend and the corporate campuses along Legacy Drive and Legacy West, where companies such as Toyota Motor North America and Frito-Lay are based. Plano ISD serves most of the city, with small areas in Lewisville, Frisco and Allen ISDs. Plano's code limits parking larger commercial vehicles in residential zoning districts, so we plan truck placement before moving day. Green Van Lines, founded in 2007 as the first eco-friendly moving company in the US, is about 15 miles away in Farmers Branch.

Plano questions

Does Plano restrict where a moving truck can park?

Plano's code makes it an offense to park or store a commercial motor vehicle in a residential zoning district if it is over 1.5 tons capacity or longer than 20 feet, taller than 7 feet or wider than 7 feet. A separate rule bars any vehicle from staying on a city street for more than 15 consecutive days without being moved. We plan the truck's position with you ahead of time and do not leave it parked at the house overnight.

Plano has no interstate. How does a moving truck leave the city?

Through one of the four roads at its edges: U.S. 75 on the east, the Dallas North Tollway on the west, the President George Bush Turnpike on the south or the Sam Rayburn Tollway (SH 121) on the north. Which one we use depends on your address and your destination state.

Which school district serves Plano?

Plano ISD serves most of the city, with Plano, Plano East and Plano West senior high schools. Small portions are served by Lewisville, Frisco and Allen ISDs.
