Rowlett takes its name from Rowlett Creek, which flows into Lake Ray Hubbard, and most of the city grew up after the lake was finished in 1971. The 2020 Census counted 62,535 residents. The city lies in both Dallas and Rockwall counties, so which school district you are leaving depends on your side of the line: Garland ISD for the Dallas County portion, or Rockwall ISD for the Rockwall County portion. Rowlett has three main ways out for a long-distance move. Interstate 30 passes Rowlett, the President George Bush Turnpike's eastern extension opened through the city in 2011, and State Highway 66 (Lakeview Parkway) crosses the lake toward Rockwall. Sapphire Bay, a 116-acre lakefront development, and the area around the Downtown Rowlett DART station are changing parts of the city. Green Van Lines, a long-distance mover from Dallas–Fort Worth founded in 2007 and the first eco-friendly moving company in the United States, plans each Rowlett move around the right highway for your destination.

Rowlett questions
Which school district are we leaving if we move out of Rowlett?
It depends on which county your home is in. Garland ISD serves the Dallas County part of Rowlett, and Rockwall ISD serves the Rockwall County part. A considerable portion of Rowlett residents are zoned to Sachse High School rather than Rowlett High School.
Can a rental trailer or truck sit on my lawn while we pack?
The Rowlett Development Code (Sec. 22-263) requires vehicles and trailers on a lot to be parked on an approved surface, such as concrete, asphalt, pavers or cased gravel, not on grass. Plan to use the driveway.
What route does a long-distance truck take out of Rowlett?
Interstate 30 is the main route east or west. The President George Bush Turnpike runs through Rowlett and connects to I-30 in Garland, which gives a direct path toward North Dallas and western routes. Moves to the east sometimes start on State Highway 66 across Lake Ray Hubbard.
