McKinney is the county seat of Collin County, and it grew from 131,117 residents in 2010 to 195,308 in the 2020 Census. The city was incorporated in 1848 and named for Collin McKinney, a signer of the Texas Declaration of Independence. Its historic downtown still centers on the courthouse square, where the old Collin County Courthouse now houses a performing arts center, and Saturday mornings bring the farmers market to Chestnut Square Heritage Village. Western McKinney, along Eldorado Parkway and around TPC Craig Ranch, holds much of the newer growth. For a long-distance move, U.S. 75 runs north–south through the city, U.S. 380 crosses it east to west, and SH 121 (the Sam Rayburn Tollway) runs along the Allen border. McKinney ISD serves about two-thirds of residents; the rest are zoned to Frisco, Prosper, Allen, Melissa, Lovejoy or Celina ISD, so check your address before you transfer school records. Green Van Lines has handled out-of-state moves from DFW since 2007, when it started as the first eco-friendly moving company in the US. McKinney is roughly 35 miles from our Farmers Branch office.
