Wylie started as Nickelville in the 1870s, was incorporated in 1887 after the railroad arrived, and is named for a railroad agent. It stayed a small farm town for most of the next century. Then it grew from about 8,700 people in 1990 to 57,526 at the 2020 Census, and about 78% of homes are owner-occupied. The city lies between Lavon Lake and Lake Ray Hubbard, and it now extends from Collin County into Dallas and Rockwall counties. As a result, a family leaving Wylie may be in Wylie ISD, Garland ISD or Rockwall ISD, depending on the address. State Highway 78 runs through the city and is the usual way out for a long-distance truck. Wylie requires trailers and vehicles to be parked on paved concrete, not on the lawn, so we plan the loading spot around your driveway. Green Van Lines, a long-distance mover from Dallas–Fort Worth founded in 2007 and the first eco-friendly moving company in the United States, plans each Wylie move from that starting point.
