Prosper sits along Preston Ridge in western Collin County, with part of the town in Denton County, and the town says it occupies the highest point in Collin County. The 2020 Census counted 30,174 residents, up from 2,097 in 2000. The town took its name in the early 1900s, after Rock Hill and Richland merged when the St. Louis & San Francisco Railroad arrived in 1902, and it incorporated in 1914. Its historic downtown still has renovated early-1900s brick buildings. Most residents now live in newer communities such as Windsong Ranch, with its crystalline lagoon, Star Trail and Lakes of Prosper, while Glenbrooke and Doe Creek in far west Prosper are zoned to Denton ISD rather than Prosper ISD. Preston Road (SH 289), first laid out in the 1830s by the Republic of Texas, runs north–south through town, and U.S. 380 runs along the south side. The Dallas North Tollway is being extended through the area. Green Van Lines has moved DFW families to other states since 2007, when it began as the first eco-friendly moving company in the US. Prosper is roughly 30 miles north of our Farmers Branch office.
